(Andy's) November 2, Friday I was not planning on going to the Edgar Winter concert, but
I found out that Donna Kerr, not wanting to go with just Dave,
bought me and Ralph tickets-free! Oh well-the parents gave
me money to pay her for it so I bought her a 12 ounce bottle
of Southern Comfort (Dad caught me going out of the door with
it-but I told him what it was for and he said okay). Sue,
Louise, Michel, Alan, Terry, Scot, Mike Sawyers, Danny, Ralph
Eastman, Kevin Allan, Nicole, Leslie
Astle also went.
I bought a 27-gram ounce of excellent grass on Hallow'een
so with that and the Southern Comfort I was all set.
We
took the 6:00 bus downtown to Alexis Nihon Plaza, where we
met a few people (including Graham Banks) before going into
the Maidenhead inn. They've got really nice looking waitresses
but the prices are outrageous (65 cents for a pint of 50!!) [!!!!!!]Dave had 1 1/2 hits of mesc and Ralph had 1/2 a hit. Dave,
Ralph and me all had beers, Donna had three drinks.
At
about 7:30 we went to the park and had a few joints, then
we decided to go in. Nicole was standing at the enterance,
very upset-Allan Whitehead had her ticket and was supposed
to meet her but he didn't show up. She came down but couldn't
find him. And to top it all off, he mother had slapped her
around a bit before she left (her parents are divorced or
separated) and she was going to go to her father's after the
show, but she didn't know what number his house was or where
his street was. I went looking outside for Al but I couldn't
find him. She told me where his seat was and, ripped out,
music blaring in my poor ears, I went off on a dangerous quest
for Whitehead, my only courage coming from my natural kind-heartedness
and a very nice-looking girl. I didn't find him. But-when
I returned she had a ticket. Some good soul said that she
looked so sad she could have his extra ticket. I took her
up to our seats. Donna + Nicole then went to the can but only
Donna returned-Nicole had found some other friends (Bob Culum,
Kevin Allan + co.) and she went with them. Oh well-I don't
think it would have worked out, I hardly know her......
I
started drinking and smoking seriously-that weed was good. Electric Light Orchestra was first on the bill-drums, lead + bass guitarists, two cello's and a violin. They were really good. The only two songs I can remember them playing are Day Tripper and Roll over Beethoven, the latter they played for an encore.
Michelle
Jorden
I went down to see Alan, Terry + Scot for awhile (they were
in the pit, we were in the whites) then I saw Sue, Louise,
Maggie and Michel. Michel (109)
was with some guy I've seen before I just can't place him.
I saw Kevin, Ralph, Bob + Nicole up on the side. I planned
to go up to see them but I didn't make it (Nicole was with
Bob). Danny turned up just as Winter was about to come on.
He took me up to his seats in the blues on the side, fairly
near the stage. We ran all the way up, I was exhausted. Smoked
alot of grass and hash-I got so stoned I didn't want to smoke
anymore. He was with Pete and[the
sentence ends there].
Winter
was doing Frankenstein. Near the beginning, the stage lights
went out except for a blacklight on Winter. He must have spread
some phosforescent stuff on his hands because they were glowing
blue as he was playing the keyboard slung around his neck.
Then three sets of three spotlights on a horizontal fix on
top of three poles started rotating. From up in the blues
you were looking down on them and they looked like three huge
fans. There was also one of those mirror-spheres above the
stage. Edgar was playing, gradually the music and his actions
got more and more violent until it looked like he was beating
his organ. Then he was beating his organ
(excuse the pun). He smashed it on the ground and started
to pound it with his fists, the organ only made one loud,
low sound every time he hit it. Then smoke started coming
out of the amp behind him. More and More smoke came out until
it was billowing all over the stage. Amazing.
Gradually,
after going down the wrong way, I made it down to the pit
again. Everybody was standing on their seats, and stayed that
way for the whole time Winter was on. Donna started to puke
so Ralph and I unloaded her on Dave and took off back to our
original seats. Dave was on mescaline and smoke, but was acting
like a drunk 3-year-old. As a matter of fact, he always acts
drunk, no matter what he's been taking.
Winter
came on for three encores-we shouted and clapped and stomped
so hard he had to come on. For one encore he did that routine
where he sings something and the lead guitar copies it on
the guitar.
After the show we went to Alexis Nihon again for a drink at
the Dairy Queen-type place there. Donna was sick again.
Smoked
a little drugs on the bus ride back.
109. If this Michel is Michelle Jorden, then the guy is Mike
Flahault. It was when she and Mike were seeing each other near
the end of November that I first took notice of her. Both of
them were having a thankfully brief flirtation with Satanism
and witchcraft (Michelle dressed in black, and Mike was even
sporting the Satanist Bible). Strange times indeed...
